Wal-Mart worker dies in Black Friday stampede

This is the saddest story I've read in a long time!

Wal-Mart worker dies in Black Friday stampede

11:47 AM EST, November 28, 2008

A 34-year-old Wal-Mart worker died Friday morning after "a throng of shoppers . . . physically broke down the doors" and knocked him to the ground as the crowd pushed its way into the store at a Valley Stream mall, Nassau police said. One police officer told Newsday the prelude to the death was "a mob scene."

Nassau County police said the 34-year-old worker was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 6 a.m., an hour after the store opened. The cause of death was not immediately known.

The man who died was a temporary, part-time Wal-Mart worker, the officer said. Shoppers who surged into the store were asked to leave by Wal-Mart workers, some of them crying and visibly upset, said one shopper, Kimberly Cribbs of Far Rockaway.

Though rumors circulated among the shoppers that someone had been badly injured, people ignored the Wal-Mart workers' requests that they stop shopping, move to the front of the store and exit, Cribbs said.

Bay City Rollers "Saturday Nights"
Rick James "Super Freak"
Melanie "Brand New Key"
Vaughan Mason and Crew "Bounce, Rock, Skate, Roll"

Turkey Day

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE turkey. It the mostest wonderfulest thing in the world. Doesn't matter that 7 minutes after ingesting it I need to go passout somewhere for hours and hours. I live for Thanksgiving (sad huh?). I always buy the biggest turkey I can because for me, it's the leftover turkey I crave. Turkey sammich's and turkey tetrazzini. Tetrazzine to die for...well, maybe not die for, but there's definately a swoon in there somewhere. Sooooo..........I wanted to share this recipe with you. It's directly from the pages of the Joy of Cooking cookbook. Interestingly enough, it's was published by PENGUIN Books Ltd............hahahaha....penguin tetrazzini.......hmmmmmmm...........nah! Anyway, here is the recipe. Sorry there's no photo's.

Turkey Tetrazzini - 8 to 10 Servings

Cut the meat from the bones of cooked turkey. There should be 3 cups of shredded meat. Cook 1/2 lb. spaghetti and add to this 3/4 lb. sauteed mushrooms. Make a sauce of 3 tablespoons butter, 2 tablespoons flour and 2 cups of checken broth. Remove from heat and stir in 1 cup heated whipping cream.

Preheat oven to 375. Add 1/2 of sauce to the chicken and 1/2 to the spaghetti and mushrooms. Place the spaghetti in a greased 9 x 13 baking dish. Make a hole in the center of the spaghetti and place the penguin turkey in it. Sprinkle the top with grated parmesan cheese. Bake the dish until tetrazzini is lightly browned. It's delish!

Enjoy!!!

Nothing is more upsetting than......

Nothing upsets me more lately than our meat departments new ground beef packaging. It's this textured hamburger crap. I cook A LOT and I LOVE hate this new way they process the hamburger. You have to pull apart all of this stringy, flingy hamburger and it cooks up terrible.

I prefer the old way of processing hamburger. See example of "nothing was wrong with this way" of perfect processing. See.....it's bulk. You plop the whole package in the pan, give it a couple of swirls of the wooden spoon and your done.

Disclaimer: I still use my wooden spoons for cooking utensils. Sue me, I'm still alive dispite what Martha Stewart says about "you'll die from salmonella" if you use wooden utensils.

What don't you like about your meat department?

Did I mention I'd rather be in Mexico right now (Our waiter Carlos)

Dazed and Confused

There seems to be some confusion about whether Sandi and I are two people or one person just posing as two people. I assure you, we are two different people. Sandi lives in Texas and I (Jennifer) live in Minnesota.

We are ex sister-in-laws (but that's for a whole different blog).

Buenos Dias!!

Well, well, well....Sandi and I have received yet another award. Trooper Thorn over at Dogs and Jeans did it. You can all blame him. None of us understand what the award says because it appears to be in Portuguese?

Like TT says, it sure is a pretty award!! If I recall my Spanish, it says something like.....
"This Blog Invested and Accredited and Closeness" As you can see, none of that makes sense but that's my interpretation of the verbiage and we'll accept the award!! Thanks TT.

We are going to pass this beautiful award onto the following! It's because we like them and sparing the rest of you! You can thank us later!!

I Think I Have A Cold?

I think I hab a code and I don't like it. I think Sandi gave me her cold she had last week!!! Each year when I get one I am forever trying to beat the darn thing and find remedies (FAST ONES) that will help get rid of it. I know, scientist have
been trying to do this for years but I get more and more determined each time I get one.

"They Say"
Cold remedies: What works!

  • Water and Fluids

  • Gargle with Salt Water

  • Saline Nose Sprays

  • Chicken Soup

  • Over the counter meds

  • Get a humidifier

"They Say" Cold remedies: What doesn't work!

  • Antibiotics

  • Antihistamines

  • Over the counter cough syrups

"They Say" Cold remedies: What probably doesn't hurt!

  • Vitamin C

  • Echinacea

  • Zinc

So I guess what "they" are saying is. Stay in bed, drink, gargle, spray crap up your nose, eat soup, take what ever over the counter medicines you remember from a commercial, stay away from Tylenol because that will cause serious liver damage (great) and go spend a couple of hundred bucks on a humidifier.

I think I'll stick it out once again and take the cheap route, my vitamin C, Zinc and Echinacea. Speaking of Echinacea, it's a beautiful flower. One of my favorites actually!!! That alone should make one feel much better. Here's a picture of the "Purple Cone Flower" (Echinacea). I take a echinacea pill every day, have for years but that alone obviously isn't working for me.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for cold remedies?

Sincerely yours,

I Hab A Code! - Jennifer

Would You Change It?

One of my "few" pet peeves is thee old toilet paper roll "over or under" rule.

I don't have this issue at my house because I'm the one that usually replaces said product. This way I know it's done properly. If you went into a bathroom and saw the roll in the position you don't like, would you change it?

I prefer the "Over" rule!!

Happy Thursday!

How many Mexicans can you fit in a van????

From time to time my daughter, Officer Princess, sends me some pretty interesting video's. Most of them are used for training police officers. Alot of them aren't appropriate for showing here, but this one is different. I'm not quite sure what type of "training" this video would be useful for, but I'll tell ya one thing.......while it made me gasp at first, before it was over, I was ROFLMAO!!!!

Graduation

Luna finally graduated her Obedience class this summer. She can sit and lay down on command. You say this might sound easy, but she can sit and lay down on comment (Commanded in German) and stay there until we release her. You can walk around the room, leave the room and the little girl will stay there. It wasn't easy but I must admit, it's VERY cool that she can do that and it comes in handy! Is she two yet???

Here is her diploma! Hey, it looks good on paper "they always say."

Here is her trainer Lee. Sorry about the crappy picture of me. It was 130' 90 degrees that day.

Recipe Time!!!! Sandi's Shrimp Salad

I posted this recipe A LONG, LONG time ago, but I thought I'd post it again for those that missed it. You're gonna LOVE this one and so will everyone else. They'll be pounding your door down for the recipe and the great thing is...........IT'S SIMPLE!!!

This recipe can be doubled, tripled, quadrupled, quintupled, or gazillioned depending on the amount of people you're going to serve.

1 Lb. medium sized shrimp, boiled and peeled and each shrimp cut in half
1 bunch of spring onions (some people call them green onions)
1 large dill pickle, chopped
Mayonnaise, just to coat (not too much here....we don't want it to creamy)
1 Tbsp. Old Bay Seasoning (and like Pastor Ryan says.......don't go using celery salt or some other substitute)

Boil shrimp, peel and devein and then cut each shrimp in half. In a medium sized bowl, add shrimp, spring onions, chopped pickle and mayonnaise to coat. Add Old Bay Seasoning and mix all together well.

This is one of those dishes that the longer it sits the better it gets so I always cover with plastic wrap and let sit in the refridgerator over night and if there's any left the next day (hahahaha) it's W O N D E R F U L!!! Serve on a bed of lettuce............

Bon Appetite and Have a Great Weekend Everybody!
