I just learned today that one should only buy seafood in months
that have "R's" in them. Let me depict it here for you:
JANUARY
FEBRUARY
MARCH
APRIL
MAY ------ BAD
JUNE ------ BAD
JULY ------ BAD
AUGUST ------BAD
SEPTEMBER
OCTOBER
NOVEMBER
DECEMBER
Who knew?
Happy Friday Eve!

That's an old guideline. Set before the advent of refrigeration. Nowadays you can get seafood all year round.
But there is a reason not to buy oysters in the summer months. Oysters spawn in the warmer months and the meat is a bit more fatty and not as tasty. But totally fine, health-wise.
True, clams are never as good as in months that actually have an R in them ...
Earl is right. And look at Maryland Blue crabs?
Summer is their time.
I'd heard that before too, but I'll eat seafood whenever I can get it!
Huh...that's interesting.
Never ever ever ever purchase the crawfish etouffee from the rib shack at the state fair.
Yes it is available.
Oh.. and never use a port o john in a month with "gust" in it.
