Here We Go Again!!! UPDATE

I HAD TO GO TO WORK!!!! DAMMIT
Yes, well.......it wasn't much. More like a spring shower on steroids. It rained all day, but it was a gentle rain. Not a blowing sideways with lightning and thunder and hail kinda rain. I took some pictures on my way into work this morning. It takes me 45 minutes just to get to the bus stop. It's mostly through the country so I don't mind at all. I saw a doe and her baby down the street from home.

This second picture is shooting North. That big building you see on the right is the Igloo factory..... Ice Chest City. You can actually see the leading edge of the storm.

This picture was taken after I got on the bus. Its the back of the seat in front of me. Interesting.... when I was on the bus, the seat was grey. Here it's blue. I'll have to ponder this.................

I felt it more than saw it, but it seemed to me like we were going a little bit faster than we should have been going considering the weather conditions. Here's what Academy looks like from the window of a bus going 97 mph down I-10 in the middle of a tropical storm.

This would be an 18-wheeler.

<----this is a shot of a laser beam being shot across the skies of downtown Houston.

If you scream IKEA really, really loud it sounds like......... I KILL YA ...........hahahahaha. So, have ya'll seen Achmed the Dead Terrorist? If you haven't, Google Jeff Dunham and watch some of the uTube skits. Hysterical. Walter is my favorite ......and Peanut..... and Achmed and Juan Jalapeno.........on a stick.

This is the end of my photojournalistic trip down I-10 in the middle of tropical storm Eduaord-O. Hope you enjoyed it.

Later!

Here We Go Again!!!!

Tropical Storm Edouard (how the hell do you pronounce a word with WAYYYYY to many vowels) is due to arrive tomorrow morning or mid-morning or mid-afternoon or sometime tomorrow (who cares.......I just know I don't have to go to work tomorrow).......Hopefully by the time he gets here his trip through Houston will have knocked some of the wind out of his sail. Edouard.........who would name their child Edouard? And it's spelled wrong. It should be Edward. If it's gonna be Edouard, then it really should be Edouard-O. At last check he was moving WNW at 7 mph and winds were at 45 knots and the barometric pressure had dropped a little (YIKES!!!! NO DROPPING YOUR BAROMETRIC PRESSURE BUDDY!!!!)

I wanted to share a really goose-bump kinda experience I had yesterday. I have a hummingbird feeder outside my back door. I had walked outside to give our granddaughter some lemonade and just after I called her name........ZZZZIIIPPPPPP........the hummingbird (a little girl) arrived at the feeder. Now you have to understand I'm so deaf I wear not one, but two, hearing aides and this little bird sounded like a Pratt & Whitney engine. I'm standing there like a dork trying not to move when it occurred to me that I was holding a red plastic cup full of lemonade. I slowly raised the cup to where she could see it and................... ZZZIIIIPPP.........SHE LANDED ON THE DAMN CUP!!! Now I ask you.........HOW AWESOME IS THAT!!!!!! She was 2 feet from my face just sitting on the cup drinking the lemonade. She was an ugly teensy weensy grungy grey thing! Looked like she was having a bad feather day. Female BIRDS (notice the emphasis on BIRDS) are kinda plain. Her mate, boyfriend, or significant other who hangs around has a red ring around his throat. Not a red ring as in a REAL ring.......a ring of red feathers. And she ALWAYS RUNS HIS ASS OFF!!!! hahahah hahahahaaaaaaaaahahahaha.................well I thought it was funny!

So tomorrow we just might have some excitement in the form of weather (my MIL says *weatha* like she's a southern belle). She pronouces Galveston as *gowaston*........What's up with that anyway? My boss pronounces October as *Optober* and this is from a college educated man. Sheesh........

I'm gonna go charge up my camera now.................

Later,
Sandi

Well.....

Well I was going to post my homemade Chow Mein Recipe but saw Candid Carrie had posted a picture on her page that diverted my attention. HYSTERICAL....Whiny Baby Brett!!

Okay, back to my sister-in-law (Kathy's) awesome recipe for Homemade Chow Mein

2 #'s Hamburger
2 Chopped Onions
2 Cups diced Celery (4 stalks)
1 Cup Minute Rice
1 Can Cream of Chicken Soup
1 Can Chicken w/Rice Soup
5 TBSP of Soy Sauce
2 Cups of Water
Salt and Pepper to taste

Brown hamburger and onions. Add remaining ingredients. Place in a 3qt dish. Cover and bake
at 350' for 1.5 hours.

Top with cashews and Chow Mein Noodles. Lavish it with tons of soy sauce. I love that soy sauce. The more the better for me!

Wipe the rim of a chilled glass with lime and salt the rim.
Squeeze fresh lime juice into the glass. (Come on, squeeze some real limes not the crap in a bottle) I use one lime to a glass
Fill'er up with your beer of choice

I Turn My Back...........

for 10 minutes and the WHOLE place changed!!!! Amazing what a little HSL (HTML as a second language) will do for a person. Good job Jen!

Well, we survived Sistah Dolly. Today was actually worse than yesterday. It just rained all day, some of it pretty darn heavy, but heaven knows we needed that. The deer aren't exhaling dust anymore (just geraniums).

Got the hubby home from the hospital today. Yesterday was really a good day for him (except for the foley catheter part). Today was miserable for him. He said he hurt all over and he couldn't pee. Apparently when they put him under for the surgery, they put his bladder under also and it didn't wake up until around noon today......how rude. Then when he was able to pee, it hurt like hell from being cathed. Poor baby. Anyway, he's home and in his recliner and very uncomfortable. We're both exhausted..................zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

HURRAY ONCE AGAIN

Thanks Chris CHRIS THE WEATHER MOOSE GOD for sending me the Html code to do this. Afraid, afraid, be very afraid!!!

Sistah Dolly

Sistah Dolly is now lumbering off to West Texas. She got up to a Cat 2 storm with winds of 100 mph. Now we all know that hurricane's are not to be taken lightly, no matter what category they are. Then for the love of God, will someone please explain to me why there is always a news reporter standing in the middle of the street broadcasting the weather conditions in 100 mph winds and a driving rain that's blowing sideways? This morning our local ABC station sent the tallest, skinniest reporter they had to Corpus Christi. So, right off, this guy is vertically challenged. I guess maybe they do this for their amusement back at the station. They put the guy in a yellow slicker, dump him in the middle of a hurricane, in the middle of the street in 100 mph winds and rain blowing sideways and you suddently have a yellow slicker doing the bunny hop trying to stay in one place. One time he got hit by a gust of wind and I thought for sure it was all over.

Anyhoooo..............we needed rain and by golly............we got some rain. Here's some pictures I took from the hospital throughout the day.

This was taken from the penthouse suite at the hospital in Katy, Texas, just west of Houston. I apologize for the blinds, but they were installed in between 2 panes of glass. All I could do was open then and close them. You can see some of the *rain bands*

Ya'll have a good day!

I'm on my way!!!!

UPDATE 10:00 am: DOLLY BECOMES A CATEGORY 2 STORM - 100MPH Winds
South Padre Island, Texas

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm coming to save you from the Hurricane Sandi!!!
http://www.weather.com/multimedia/videoplayer.html?clip=328&from=hp_main_tab3

Hang in there!!!!!

What The..............?

Houston........we have cloudage (is that a word?). The outer edge of Sista Dolly is beginning to enter the Houston area. It's a little breezy here also. So today will likely be a rainy, windy kinda day. I'm hoping to get some pictures of "rain bands" and I'll post them later if I can get them. A hurricane warning extends from Corpus Christi south to Brownsville and tropical storm warnings are in effect for Corpus Christi, north, up to Dallas (this includes MEEEEEEEEE).

So..........is there a relationship here? Jennifer is my ex-sister-in-law.....that's a relationship isn't it?

Jennifer (Minnesota) is getting tornadoes and I'm (Texas) getting hurricanes. Of course there's a relationship!!!! We have a *connection*. To me, a tornado is a skinny, compact hurricane and hurricane is a fatter version. I'm sure Weather Moose will tell you that a tornado and straight line winds are hard to differentiate.......debris may be the key there.

I know ALL about weather cause I had to take a weather course in my ground school class so I could learn to fly. That reminds me..........I need to launder my cape this evening.......it's a little dusty.

Everyone go over to Weather Moose's blog and take his weather quiz. It ROCKS!!!!

Now really?

Are stoplights REALLY necessary???

P.S. My thoughts are with you Sandi. Hope all goes well with surgery day!
Give B. a big hug and a kiss for me!

Love, Jennifer

Today is Surgery Day...................

So if you see this post, please say a prayer for my husband that this surgery goes well and he can finally get his back fixed and out of pain. Say a prayer for the doctor that God will guide his hands and that he and his wife weren't in a fight last night and he lost. And say one for me too, that I will be patient and not kill my husband............you guys out there know exactly what I'm talking about.

Blessings!

Three Things to Ponder!

1. Cows
2. The Constitution
3. The Ten Commandments

C O W S
Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the state of Washington? And, they tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering around our country. Maybe we should give each of them a cow.

T H E C O N S T I T U T I O N
They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq . Why don't we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it has worked for over 200 years, . . . and we're not using it anymore.

T H E 1 0 C O M M A N D M E N T S
The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse is this: You cannot post 'Thou Shalt Not Steal,' 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery,' and 'Thou Shall Not Lie' in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians. It creates a hostile work environment.

Iowa Speedway - Iowa Corn Indy 250 Race

Here's a picture of Larry and I at a Indy race in Iowa last weekend. We were WAY WAY up in the stands. Awesome seats!! We were close to the track at the Indianapolis 500 so we changed stratagies and moved up to higher seats for this race. We are going back down low close to the track for the NASCAR race in Chicago July 12th. Stay tuned for more photo's of that night race. Should be cool!

Patience

I was watching Oprah this afternoon and just happened to look out the window in the back door and saw this yearling in our backyard. She's standing at the back of our property. It's very dry here as we haven't had any rain in a while and I worry about these guys (ahem....young ladies).

What's cool, is she knows I was there, and occasionally she looked up at me and would then go back to eating dust. She's actually standing beneath a pear tree we have. It doesn't have much fruit on it this year, but the deer just love it. I need to go check and see if they've eaten any of it

After awhile she sauntered over to a horse trough we have (minus the horse) and started drinking out of it. I made mental note to clean it out and fill it with fresh water. My lab uses this trough to dunk his frisbee and then go diving for it.

I love deer and I love watching them. They're good to eat too..........OOPS! Sorry if I offended anyone.

A couple of weeks ago I bought some geranium's and planted them in my front flower bed in between some yellow mums. It was sooooo pretty, the red and yellow together. One day I went outside and my husband wanted to know why the red flowers had disappeared so fast. My head snapped over to look at the geraniums and sure nuff........the pretty red flowers were gone. Not only were the flowers gone, but most of the entire plant was missing. It was then that I remembered the geraniums were popular to decorate cakes and salads with and that if we eat them, deer eat them...........grrrrrrrrr......

Here's a photo of her peeking over the bench at me. Geranium eating monster that she is. She knows what she did. That very night we went out to dinner and when we drove into our driveway, I noticed 3 or 4 of the suckers in our next door neighbor's yard. One had bedded down under our mesquite tree. "OH HOW CUTE" I said. Unaware that the little devil's were just waiting for us to go into the house and shut off the lights so they could wreak carnage on my beloved geraniums........

I think she heard me cussing her cause she started to sneak off on tippy toes. She knows what she did.

When does hunting season start?

Thunderstorm Winds

I was reading this Meterologists blog today and he posted the following:
I found it hysterical!!!

Winds don't like to be alone. It's true! I mean, occasionally you'll get winds without rain, lightning, tornadoes, etc. However, they're pretty insecure and not usually independent. Kinda clingy. I spoke with a tornado about this once. The look on his face said it all...

But seriously, here are some real facts about straight-line heavy winds...

1. They are the most damaging part of severe thunderstorms.
2. They can exceed 100 mph.
3. One of the worst types of heavy winds is called a downburst/microburst, which is a strong burst of wind downward from a thunderstorm. These can cause damage similar to a tornado (see above...winds are such wannabes).

Some things that you can do to avoid trouble during heavy winds include...
1. Not going outside....duh.
2. Gaining weight. It's harder to move 300 lbs. than it is 130 lbs. Trust me on this. I could go into the physics of it, but it's not pretty.

3. Wear bike helmets.

This will conclude this short lecture series on Surviving Severe Weather. I hope these tips have been helpful to all of you and that you will pass them on to your children for use in the future. Of course, there are all other sorts of severe weather (hail, blizzards, ex-mother-in-laws). Each of those scenarios can be expounded upon for the low price of $19.95. Or a comment, whichever you can least afford!

See

I just returned from filling up my car at the gas station.
When I finished the pump read $36.01...... Case in point!
Another penny lost out of my pocket. Crap!!!

I Dislike The Penny @ The Pump!

Have you ever noticed when you go fill up at the gas station you RARELY are
able to round off to the nearest dollar??? It ALWAYS ends up being $35.01 ( hey
what can I say I drive a Taurus) or $50.01, $60.01. The darn gas stations are
making a penny off of millions of people per day. Ticks me off.
I try every time when I gas up, it's now my new goal in life to round off
and stop giving the gas stations my penny. So get out there people........
I'm not kidding, try it the next time you fill up!

Yolks On You {smile}

LOOKY LOOKY LOOKY what I found........you don't see these often. I remember the very first one I saw. I was probably somewhere between 8 and 11 and my Dad was fixing *german fried eggs* for breakfast........aka fried eggs. He cracked the egg in the skillet and VOILA a double yolk. Twin chicks......... awwwwwwwwww................ poor babies never had a chance............

The other day (last Friday) I was fixing breakfast and VOILA...........there it was again............double yolks. It's the one at the top of the skillet..........see? Now I realize they are are unfertilized eggs, but what if they had been fertilized. Have twins chicky's ever popped out of an egg? Inquiring mind need to know!!!

This photo made me run like mad in the house and grab my camera. It looked for a minute like the sky was on fire. Check this out!!!! It's 8:15 p.m. and the sun is still doing it's job!!!

Blessings!
