Hummingbirds Galore

Welcome to all the SITSa's who are dropping by today. I (we) Sandi and I hope that you have a blast reading our posts. I (we) try to comment on everybody that visits but sometimes I (we) get backed up and can't. BUT I (we) eventually get caught up, so hang in there!!!!!!

Thanks again!

Jennifer and Sandi

I hope you guys will indulge me for a moment, but this is one of the coolest things I've done in a long time. These little guys (actually.........mostly gals....) let me hold the bird feeder and tape them at the same time. If you turn your speakers up you can hear them chattering. There were so many of them I could feel the air from their wings on my arms and they obviously didn't have a problem with me being so close to them. Don't peck the hand that feeds you I guess.........

~Sandi~

And it's so amazing to hand them LAND on you!and I would put the feeder in front of my face, and they only inches from my eyes! it truly is amazing.

I've noticed one around here, and need to make some nectar and get a new feeder. It loves the honeysuckle out my window.

We have a nature trail here called the Bird Song trail and you can walk out into it, put bird seed on your hand and stand very still and birds will literally come and eat it out of your hand!

  23. That is awesome!

    I love humming birds.

    ReplyDelete

  30. Oh my gosh.....you are the hummingbird whisperer! :-)
Years ago, when the girls were small, I had a feeder in the back yard. Then we moved out to Hawaii where hummingbird feeders are illegal, and although we are back on the mainland (9 years now), I have never replaced it.
I shall go out and buy a feeder today.
Thanks for sharing that and reminding me all that I am missing.
Oh and......Congratulations on your day in the SITS sun. Have a most beautiful day.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Wow! I am so jealous. I want to do that. I love hummingbirds. My family just got back from Palm Springs and one of my favorite things to do was watch this little hummingbird fly around. They are so amazing.

Oh and I live in Minnesota!!

    ReplyDelete
  57. That is too cool! I've been hanging a humming bird feeder out for the past two years, but have yet to get even one to stop by for a visit...I'm thinking all the other birds that swarm the other bird feeder keep them at bay...

    Happy SITS Day! :)

    ReplyDelete

    happy SITS day!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  73. I should not have played the video with our new ragdoll kitten in the same room. He was bound and determined to get through the screen and TO THE BIRDS! *lol*

Add to that, despite the utter coolness factor, birds TERRIFY ME! And hummingbirds look like they'd be perfect for pecking out eyes!

Happy SITS day! I will definitely be adding you to my daily reads!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Wow, I'll have to show my daughter that video. I have never seen that many hummingbirds at one time. How cool that they let you hold the feeder and stand so close to them. (guess they were hungry!)

I loves me some hummingbirds! I have a friend in CO who can actually reach out to his feeder, snatch one out of the air, pet it, and release it. So very cool!

    ReplyDelete
  92. That was an amazing video. I let my kids watch it. What was so neat was the way you could hear the birds chattering ~ I've never heard hummingbird chatter! It sounds somewhat like dolphins.

I hope you have a wonderful week and enjoy your SITS day!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  98. OK - cool, yes, but I must admit I had a little bit of a case of the heebs going as I was watching that...hummingbirds are neat, but they kind of remind me of bugs. Which are not neat at all.

    ReplyDelete

    Happy SITS

    ReplyDelete
  100. That is so neat! They were all over the place! Happy SITS day!

    ReplyDelete
  101. Hope you are enjoying your SITS day. How cool is this?! My mil has a hummingbird feeder, but everytime someone goes near it all the birds fly away, so I always thought that they wouldn't fly around people. Might have to get one of my kids to try this, cause I think I'm too chicken!

    ReplyDelete
  102. wow!!! very beautifully cool!!

    ReplyDelete
  103. Happy SITS day... and that video was wonderful... I've never seen so many hummingbirds at once. Usually it's like a flash and they're gone!

    ReplyDelete
  126. WOW!!! That was so cool! So how often to you have to refill your feeder??

    Happy SITS Day!

    ReplyDelete
  127. Wow! That is cool! What fun! You can also train Chickadees to eat out of your hand...make a cardboard cutout of a person, dress it in one of your shirts and have it "sitting" outside in a chair with birdseed in it's hand. Leave it there for a couple of weeks and watch for the chickadees to come regularly...then...put the shirt on, sit in the chair, put seed in your hand and stay still...they'll eat right out of your hand. Fun!

    ReplyDelete
  128. That's awesome! Happy SITS day!

    ReplyDelete
  129. How cool is that!?!?!?! I can't believe they got so close to you!

  161. Didn't your arm get tired?

    That was so. Cool!

I've been wanting to buy a hummingbird feeder for a long time and keep thinking--I won't get any hummers, don't waste the money.

But you've inspired me! I'm not going to go out on a limb (so to speak) but I'll pick up a cheapy feeder and hang it on my deck. Wish me luck. And happy SITS! :) GREAT POST!

    ReplyDelete
  162. That's so cool but hummingbirds freak me out a little. They're pretty, but being that close to them would not be on my list of things to experience.
